1. What Data Between Contractions Stores
When you use Between Contractions, it stores the following directly on your device:
- Contraction start/stop times, duration, and frequency
- Optional details you choose to add, like intensity and notes
- Your app preferences, such as language and light/dark theme
On iOS this is stored using Apple's SwiftData framework; on Android it's stored using a Room database; and in the Web App it is stored in your browser's local storage. Native operating-system backup or cloud-sync features may copy this data through your personal Apple or Google account, subject to your device settings. Partner Sync is the only feature that sends contraction data to a server operated for Between Contractions, and it runs only when you choose to create or join a group.
2. Optional Partner Sync
Partner Sync lets invited iOS and Android devices share one pregnancy in real time. When you use it, the service processes the pregnancy name, device display names, random device and group identifiers, subscription-verification information, and shared contraction events. Events can include start and stop times, intensity, and notes that you choose to share.
The service uses this information only to provide Partner Sync, manage group membership, verify the paid subscription, and deliver or replay events. It does not use the information for advertising or tracking. Pending sync events are deleted after every group member acknowledges them, or after a maximum of 30 days. Leaving a group stops future syncing on that device; deleting local history does not automatically erase copies that have already synchronized to another member's device.
3. Feedback and Public Roadmap
When you submit feedback, the service stores the project name, feedback type, title, details, selected language, submission source, moderation and delivery status, and timestamps. You may optionally provide an email address so the developer can reply. Ideas may be published on the public roadmap after moderation; bug reports, private messages, and email addresses are never returned by the public API.
Bug reports submitted from the native apps also include a diagnostic report that is shown and described before you send it. On iOS this contains the app's privacy-safe diagnostic event codes; on Android it contains only the app version and operating-system version. These reports do not include contraction history, notes, pregnancy or device names, phone numbers, partner identifiers, tokens, or raw error messages. Ideas do not include a diagnostic report.
The service stores only a keyed hash of a random browser voting identifier and temporarily stores a keyed hash derived from the request address for rate limiting. It does not attach raw request addresses or Turnstile tokens to feedback. You can request deletion through the contact method below. A local browser preview of your own pending submission can be dismissed or removed by clearing this site's browser data.
4. Diagnostics and Crash Information
The iOS app uses Apple's unified logging and MetricKit to diagnose crashes, hangs, and operational errors. It keeps a small seven-day, on-device history of predefined event codes. That history does not contain contraction details, notes, pregnancy or device names, partner identifiers, tokens, or raw error messages. It is not uploaded automatically; you decide whether to export it or attach it when explicitly submitting an in-app bug report. Apple may separately make aggregated diagnostics available to the developer when you have enabled sharing with app developers in your Apple device settings.
5. What We Don't Do
- No general account or sign-up is required. An email address is optional only when submitting feedback.
- We don't run third-party analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting SDKs, and we don't show ads.
- We don't sell personal data or use Partner Sync data for cross-app tracking.
6. Home Screen Widgets and Watch Apps
The optional home screen widget and watch companion app (Apple Watch / Wear OS) sync your contraction data directly between your phone and your own devices using Apple's App Groups / WatchConnectivity or the Android Wearable DataLayer API. This data stays within your personal devices and is not routed through any server we operate.
7. Deleting Your Data
You can delete all contraction history from Settings in the native apps or with Clear in the Web App. Uninstalling a native app removes its local data. In a browser, clearing site data for this website also removes the Web App's saved history and preferences.
To stop Partner Sync and delete the active shared group from the Between Contractions service, the subscriber can open Partner Sync and choose End Sharing. Invited members can choose Leave Group to remove their device from the group. Pending relay events are deleted after every member acknowledges them or after a maximum of 30 days. Data already synchronized to another member's device remains under that member's control and must be deleted on that device.
To request deletion of feedback, Partner Sync records that you cannot remove in the app, or other server-held Between Contractions data, email [email protected] with the subject “Between Contractions data deletion.” Include only the information needed to locate the record, such as the optional reply email used for feedback or the Partner Sync group code. Do not include contraction notes or other sensitive health details. We may retain limited records when required for security, fraud prevention, purchase accounting, or legal compliance.
8. Children's Privacy
Between Contractions is intended for use by expecting parents and is not directed at children. Partner Sync data is processed only to provide the feature described above and is not used to profile or advertise to minors.
9. Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes — for example, if a future feature changes how data is handled — we'll update the "Last updated" date above and describe the change here.
